Tips for designing the perfect embroidered patch
Use solid shapes
Create text, logo, or simple graphic designs with smooth lines and solid shapes. Avoid tiny or complicated details, such as small letters, photos, gradients, blend effects, etc.
Check your line thickness
- To get the regular satin stitch, create 0.05″ (1.3 mm) to 0.5″ (12.5 mm) thick designs
- For tatami stitch, your design shapes need to be thicker than 0.5″ (12.5 mm)
- To achieve the run stitch (a single line of stitches), create lines thinner than 0.05″ (1.3 mm)
See what your stitches will look like in our Embroidery Guidelines.

Have your design file prepped for embroidery
Before we can embroider your design, it needs to be digitised, or, in other words, turned into a file that our embroidery machines can read. Digitisation requires a one-time fee for each new design, after which you can re-use it on any embroidery-friendly Printful product.
The digitisation fee depends on your design type and placement.
