Choosing the best t-shirt printing method

The right technique depends on your design, fabric, and budget – here’s how our most popular shirt printing methods compare

Direct-to-garment (DTG) printing

DTG is a digital printing method that works like an inkjet printer for clothing. Eco-friendly, water-based inks are sprayed directly onto cotton fabric, creating a soft, durable finish. It’s one of the latest printing technologies in POD.

  • Best for: photorealistic images, complex designs with many colours, and soft-feel printed t-shirts
  • Good to know: detailed prints that stay vibrant wash after wash

Direct-to-film (DTF) printing

With DTF, your design is first printed onto a transfer film, then heat-pressed onto the shirt. The result is a bold, flexible print that won’t crack or fade easily.

  • Best for: bright graphics on polyester blends, sportswear, and other fabrics beyond cotton
  • Good to know: durable prints with sharp detail across more garment types

Custom embroidery

Embroidery uses thread to stitch designs directly into the fabric for a textured, high-end look. It’s ideal for logos, text, or club badges where professionalism matters.

  • Best for: company logos, club badges, and minimalist text designs that need a high-end feel
  • Good to know: adds a touch of class and is one of the most durable methods available

Frequently asked questions

Yes, you can receive t-shirts, accessories, and other custom product orders from Printful in the UK and worldwide.

Our custom t-shirt prices for adults range from £8.10 to £17.94. The price includes the t-shirt and 1 standard printing placement (additional prints are extra). If you get yours embroidered, there’s an up to £4.95 one-time digitisation fee. The t-shirt price doesn’t include shipping.

Embroidery is the most durable, as the design is stitched into the garment. Among print methods, direct-to-film (DTF) is highly long-lasting. Traditional screen prints can also be durable, but it usually requires large minimum order quantities.

Most orders are fulfilled in 2-5 business days at our UK centre, then shipped in 2 days with Royal Mail. Your personalised t-shirts usually arrive within a week.
