What are default selling preferences

What are default selling preferences?

Selling preferences let you set up your default selling region (DSR) based on your target market.

These settings tailor your product range by prioritizing items with the best availability and fastest shipping in that region.

How do I choose the right selling preference for my store?

Your global default selling region is automatically set to your location. If your target audience is in a different region, adjust it at any time to match where your customers are. Not sure yet? Set it to Worldwide and adjust later based on orders.

There are two types of default selling preferences:

  • Global (affects your catalog view)
  • Store (controls what you can add to a store)

Example: How global and store preferences work together

Let’s say your global default selling preference is set to Worldwide, and your store default selling preference is set to US. You’ll be able to browse all the products in the catalog – regardless of region.

However, you’ll only be able to add products to your store if they’re assigned to the US region. You won’t be able to publish products not included in your store’s selling region.

Example: Region mismatch between global and store preferences

If your global default selling preference is set to Europe, but store default selling preference is set to US, you’ll only see products assigned to Europe.

You can only add products to your store if they are also available in the US region.

Products exclusive to Europe can’t be published to that store.

What is the difference between global default selling preference and store default selling preference?

The global preference affects what you see in the Product Catalog, what’s available for personal orders, and the fulfillment costs on product pages. The store preference controls which products you can add to your store, how stock appears, and which fulfillment costs show during setup.

Default Selling Preferences FAQ

You can change your global default selling preference by clicking Preferences in the top-right corner of your Printful Dashboard.

To update the store default selling preference, go to Dashboard > Settings > Store settings > General > Choose store > Store default selling preferences.

Find more details.

No. Printful ships products worldwide with only a few exceptions. Your selling preference simply filters and prioritizes products in your catalog and store view. Customers can place orders from anywhere.

Whenever possible, we’ll fulfill orders locally based on the delivery address – even if it’s outside your selected region.

Products are mainly assigned to a selling region if they’re available for fulfillment locally. However, this isn’t guaranteed. A product may also be included if it’s fulfilled in a nearby region, or if there’s no suitable local alternative, even if it ships from farther away.

On each product page, you’ll find an Availability tab. It shows, by variant, which Printful facilities can fulfill it and the current stock status.

Yes, it’s possible. If a product isn’t fulfilled locally and has to be shipped internationally, customs fees may apply depending on the destination country. We recommend adding this information to your store to help customers avoid surprises at checkout.

Fulfillment locations have different local costs. The prices you see in the Product Catalog and during product push reflect the selling region you’ve selected. However, your final fulfillment cost depends on the customer’s delivery address and which facility is used for the order.
