What is benchmarking?

There are 4 types of benchmarking:  

  • Internal benchmarking  compares an organization’s own processes 
  • Competitive benchmarking compares an organization’s performance to competitors
  • Strategic benchmarking identifies best practices in different industries and implements them to achieve superior performance and gain a competitive edge 
  • Technical benchmarking compares technical processes or aspects of products or services to identify areas for improvement
